Country Manager and Commercial Operations Lead – Pharma, Ireland – S010357

Our client is a small but rapidly growing successful pharmaceutical company specialising in identifying, researching and licensing off-patent medicines with unmet priority health care needs.

Due to expansion the company are now looking to add to their team and appoint a Commercial Lead and Country Manager for Ireland.

This role will be responsible for managing a small sales team on the ground in Ireland while also working with the Global Head of Commercial Operations to drive commercial activities for the company‘s pipeline programs internationally, participating in commercial planning and market preparation activities by providing objective, in-depth information on current and future markets, customers and competitors.

The Commercial lead will identify critical business issues and opportunities for growth, collaborate with commercial, supply chain and cross-functional teams, and drive strategies to set the direction for the product in the region.

Along with their current promoted product within Neurology, the company has a strong pipeline of medicines identified which they plan to launch over the next 3 years in Neurology, Cardiology and Pain management.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Create, agree and deliver the Irish business plan revenue and profit targets.

  • Develop and deliver the commercialisation of current product and subsequent products in Ireland.

  • Recruit, lead and manage the sales resources.

  • Identify and source the marketing and communication resources necessary to deliver the business in line with agreed business plan

  • Identify and develop relationships with national Key Opinion Leaders in order to drive the commercial agenda

  • Take a shared responsibility and ownership for continued education and acquisition of own and competitor product knowledge to perform to the appropriate company standard.

  • Build and manage relationships with regional teams, country managers, distribution partners to develop commercial strategies to address market opportunities, build business and go-to-market plans

  • Builds and manages the market performance and reporting process

  • Drives market development/ pre-launch activities for pipeline programs in Europe

  • Partnering with regional and global commercial team (Market Access, Product Marketing, Field Teams), Medical & Scientific Affairs, and others

  • Evaluates and provides internal guidance on the regional market landscapes, monitor changes and predict trends in market dynamics and competition

  • Support the localisation of materials and resources for the region as needed

  • Prepare regional brand and launch plans in collaboration with internal team


What is required to be successful in this role:

  • 10+ years pharmaceutical industry experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of the local health system.

  • Pharma selling experience of specialist products to hospital consultants – Neurology experience, though not essential would be an advantage.

  • Engagement with clinical stakeholders with an ability to bring a large decision-making group around the table to move the agenda forward, including pharmacy, nurses and procurement/market access.

  • Engagement with patient focus groups, e.g. to improve awareness.

  • Self-sufficient, with regional management experience including full responsibility for planning and resourcing the region desirable.

  • Performance management capability, the ability to set expectations and hold teams accountable.

  • Experience of working with a contract sales force would carry additional benefits as the person will have learnt the art of influencing as well as managing.

  • New product launch experience beneficial.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with internal and external teams to achieve project objectives.

  • Consulting, project management, marketing, and/or market research experiences.

  • Experience of more than one market or healthcare system an advantage.

  • This role will involve travel to UK, across the European region and other areas as deemed necessary.
