Deputy Hotel Manager

RecruitmentPlus has an excellent opportunity for a Deputy Hotel Manager based in Navan, Co. Meath. The Deputy Hotel Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Hotel, to include carrying out the role of Senior Assistant Manager.

Responsibilities will include:

  • To assist the General Manager with the overall planning, organising and control of all departments within the Hotel, keeping him/her informed daily of any issues / incidents.

  • Your department of responsibility is the Bar and Club, your previous Job Description will continue to ensure the continuous smooth operation of this department.

  • Ensure that all staff arrive for work on time, meeting the Standard Dress Code in terms of their Uniform and Appearance.

  • To always promote the Hotel‘s Customer care policy.

  • To maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and grooming.

  • Attend weekly HOD Meetings and follow up on any outstanding issues from week to week.

  • Do a floor walk of each area of the Hotel focusing on attention to detail i.e., notice board, Cleanliness, Dress Codes etc. and ensure each department is ready for service.

  • Effectively communicate with all Managers, Supervisors and Senior Staff daily to ensure smooth running of each department and to communicate any issues relating to them. Check the Duty Managers Diary daily and follow up on comments.

  • Manage the porter department, ensuring room set ups are correct, provide training when needed to improve standards.

  • Manage the House Keeping department, do a daily inspection of all rooms and in your absence ensure a senior person carries out this duty.

  • Oversee the float management system, and ensure all procedures are followed. Any changes to procedures must be signed off by the General Manager prior to implementation. You are responsible for the safe on first floor, total float of €6,000. An email must be sent weekly to confirm that this safe is balanced.

  • Focus on daily Room Occupancy Figures, VIP‘s, Groups, No-Shows, Conference & Banqueting Events, Restaurant Bookings, Bar numbers and figures for Lunch, complaints etc.

  • Carry out weekly room spot checks to ensure standards of cleanliness are being maintained.

  • Effectively delegate projects, tasks and responsibility to Heads of Departments, monitoring, checking and reverting to them with feedback.

  • Oversee all departmental Rosters, ensuring the roster always reflects the business requirements, managing payroll to ensure it is kept at sustainable levels e.g., quiet times send staff home.

  • Approve the Departmental rosters to include authorising any changes and ensure wage forecasts do not exceed budgeted hours, ensure all rosters are entered on Alkimii by Thursday for the following week.

  • Be visible to Guests during the busy periods of the day, prioritise where you should be i.e., Bar around lunch time, meet all meeting and event organisers to ensure meeting / function rooms are set to the required spec. Cover Reception breaks when required.

  • Oversee the running of all functions in particular weddings and any VIP events, ensure the staff are trained to carry out service in an efficient, systematic, and friendly manner. Issues must be dealt with promptly and no delays should occur when dealing with a guest query or complaint.

  • Assist with wedding show rounds liaising closely with the Conference and Banqueting Manager to arrange appointments, covering this department is required to facilitate Holidays and days off, check emails and respond to emails at weekends and out of hours.

  • Be available to deal with complaints or queries from Guests which cannot be dealt with at departmental level.

  • Assist with any emergency situations in an efficient and professional manner.

  • Prior to going off duty, all handover completed, speak to the senior staff members, and ensure they are fully briefed on their tasks for the shift ahead.

  • You will continue as Health and safety officer for the Hotel, please liaise with the General Manager in relation to all these matters.
