HEALTH: |
A candidate holding the post must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the post and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable ability to render regular and efficient service. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical before being appointed to the role. |
HOURS OF WORK: |
35 hrs per week. There may be times the post holder would be required to work outside normal office hours |

CONFIDENTIALITY: |
The PIC/DON will have access to a variety of records/documents/ information which may be strictly confidential. Unless acting on the instruction of an authorised person, on no account must information concerning staff, patients or other hospital business be divulged or discussed except in the performance of normal duty. In addition, records may never be left in such a manner that unauthorised persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required. |
GARDA VETTING |
The successful candidate will be required to satisfactorily complete the Garda Vetting process prior to an appointment being made |
JOB PURPOSE: |
Reporting to the Board of Trustees of the Hospital, the post holder is accountable for contributing to and implementing the Hospitals strategy, mission statement and ethos of care. The Director of Nursing/ Person in Charge is a core member of the hospitals leadership team and will provide leadership to the clinical and non-clinical team by maintaining a culture of quality care by Providing leadership to all staff Leading on strategic development for the hospital Overseeing the delivery of clinical excellence and quality care Responsible for infection prevention and control within the hospital Responsible for safeguarding people with care needs within the hospital |

Qualifications |
Registered on the Live Register in the General Division of the Register of Nurses as maintained by NMBI. Management qualification QQI Level 6 or above |
Post graduate qualification in Gerontological Nursing or in a related field |

Experience |
Proven clinical and professional management ability, leadership, and communication skills. A minimum of 7 years post registration experience. A minimum of 3 years‘ experience as a Nurse Manager A minimum of 3 years‘ caring for older persons in the last 6 years A sound understanding of clinical governance, service planning, service provision, and resource management. Demonstrate excellent knowledge of relevant HIQA standards and an ability to work within a regulated healthcare environment. |
